Heinz Field was opened in the autumn of 2001, replacing Three Rivers Stadium which had served as home for the Panthers and Steelers from 1970 to 2000. Ground was broken in June, 1999 and the initial event held in the new building was a concert by 'N Sync on August 18, 2001. The Steelers first game at Heinz was an exhibition game a week later, August 25th, against the Detroit Lions. The first 'official' football game played was between the Pittsburgh Panthers and East Tennessee State on September 1st. The Steelers were scheduled to host the Cleveland Browns on September 16th for the first professional official game, but the September 11 terrorist attacks caused all NFL games to be postponed, so it was not until October 7th that the Steelers finally got to play in their new stadium, hosting and defeating the Cincinnati Bengals.

The location of Heinz Field, right on the river from downtown, is perfect for transportation on game days. Whether you are driving, taking a bus or a shuttle service or even arriving by riverboat, Pittsburgh has done a marvelous job of planning transportation to and from the stadium on game days, managing to prevent the traffic snafus most NFL cities experience on Sunday evenings. Heinz Field hotel rooms are in abundance in proximity to the stadium; at least a dozen among the most well-known hotels are within a mile of Heinz. Pittsburgh International Airport is approximately 30 minutes away and also offers a wide range of Heinz Field lodging.

There are 24 24 men 's, women 's, and 8 family restrooms, 47 concession stands, 15 novelty stands and 7 team stores at Heinz Field, offering a little something for everyone; even those with the most discriminating of tastes. When you come to Heinz Field to enjoy a Pittsburgh Steelers game, gone are the days of plain old football with a hotdog, unless that's the way you like it. This venue has 400 televisions that are related to the main scoreboard, 2 video walls and a scoreboard video display that expands to an enormous 96 feet by 27 feet.

Once inside Heinz Field, one of the more popular attractions is the Coca-Cola Great Hall, set on the eastern side of the stadium. The Great Hall is a veritable museum devoted to the illustrious history of Pittsburgh football, both college and professional. Don't miss the Steelers display honoring the team's six world championships, more than any other franchise. Another popular attraction is the actual lockers of several Steelers legends, including Mean Joe Greene, Bullet Bill Dudley, and Franco Harris.

The Coca-Cola Great Hall is on the eastern side of the stadium. It contains a collection of Steelers and Pittsburgh Panther memorabilia. For example, there are actual lockers of former famous players (Joe Greene, Bill Dudley, more), and Jerome Bettis and a timeline of the Steelers major events throughout their winning history. Also, the word Steelers is painted in black over a gold background on the ground so that it will resemble their old field from Three Rivers Stadium. The University of Pittsburgh is represented by 2 large murals and 8 additional tile murals that demonstrate their history were established by local high schools.

Visiting Heinz Field on game days, whether it is for a Panthers or a Steelers game, is a tremendous experience for the whole of the family, and one sure to be revisited.

Cleveland Cavaliers Team Players - What's Required

In the first year at Baltimore, the team came 4th amongst 5 teams of Western Division. The team reached the finals four times but couldn't win the championship. The then coach Dick Motta coined the famous phrase? The opera ain't over?til the fat lady sings!? The Bullets smashed the Seattle SuperSonics in seven games with this statement as their slogan. They won the championship that year. It was the first time that any professional sports trophy was brought to Washington D.C. in 36 years. Even with future hall of famers in their team, like Wes Unseld and Elvin Hayes, a spell of bad games followed. At that time, even cheap Wizard tickets weren't being grabbed by the fans.
